CRHRA is proud to announce a special workshop opportunity co-hosted by Schenectady County Community College at their Downtown Albany Campus, as part of the SCCC Community Education program.

We invite you to join Josef Martens, PhD, CSP, who has a unique background as a physicist, entrepreneur, organizational leader, and business consultant, to hear his fascinating insights on how to move your company’s innovation efforts from good to great. This will be a two-part program, and attendees may register for one or both sessions.

In the first hour of the program, Josef will provide a high-level overview of the Human Side of Innovation and discuss how we can connect HR with the organization’s strategy.

In the second part of the program, Josef will offer a two-hour interactive workshop where participants can practice using five new skills to begin thinking about ways to implement new approaches to innovation and leadership within their own organizations.

This program will allow you to step outside the usual HR activities and to connect directly with the strategy of the core operating units of the business. You will learn new, meaningful ways to connect with the senior leaders of your business units. Discover how to become a catalyst for the business units and for enterprise wide innovation: leveraging everyone’s potential to advance the organization’s strategy. We call this the Human Side of Innovation.

Launching new products and services, designing more efficient processes, or implementing new approaches to leadership are all different types of innovation. Frequently, these innovations are developed by subject matter experts: new products are typically developed by Research & Development departments, new internal processes are developed by the functional owners, such as IT or Finance, and new leadership approaches are developed by HR or the Executive Team. The focus on developing the new solutions is usually on the subject matter expertise and the task is delegated to the experts. Far less emphasis is given to the skills that are required to involve and leverage the whole organization. As a result, often the new solutions fall short of their potential.

Josef’s programs fill this gap: participants gain the skills to leverage new solutions for maximum impact. The Human Side of Innovation is a framework of five skills together with strategies to practice and implement them in an effective way.

In this program for HR practitioners, Josef shares the how to apply the Human Side of Innovation across business units. Impacting the entire enterprise’s strategic goals, mission and bottom line, HR practitioners will learn how to enter into new partnerships across the whole organization. Participants will apply their leadership skills to further the strategy and will foster their critical thinking skills from an enterprise-wide perspective. Participants will be take the first steps towards mastery of the Human Side of Innovation and become catalysts in their organization for others. Be ready for a program that is highly interactive, engaging and – despite the serious-sounding topic – a lot of fun.

About our Speaker:

Josef Martens, PhD, CSP, helps organizations move their innovation efforts from good to great. Josef knows the art of innovation inside out: with a PhD in physics from the world-renowned University of Cambridge, six patents in the multi-billion-dollar field of OLEDs, and many peer-reviewed publications, he has first-hand experience in discovering new solutions and bringing them to life within the reality of organizations.

With all his experience, Josef has learned that innovation is not just about technologies, fostering the “creative genius”, processes or systems. While these are important, often overlooked are the human behaviors, skills and ways of being, that drive innovation. We call this The Human Side of Innovation. Josef uses his expertise to help individuals and organizations FastForward innovation and deliver new solutions.

For nearly two decades, Josef has conducted programs in over 30 countries across five continents for client organizations such as Merck & Co, Daimler, AstraZeneca, Siemens, 4-H Council, NASA, the Department of Defense, ASQ, PMI and many more. His fresh, provocative and insightful content has allowed him to be a TEDx speaker.

Josef is a Certified Speaking Professional, the highest earned international designation of the National Speakers Association. Only about 700 speakers worldwide hold this honor for speaking excellence.

He has two teenage sons who provide him with plenty of opportunities (and reality checks) for innovation at home. In his spare time, he enjoys section hikes on the Appalachian Trail.
